A Concept Story

Role: 2D Motion Design and Concept
Background
Game Changers is Riot's stage for elite women in Valorant, and for 2022 the event needed a campaign that hit as hard as its players. The creative direction had teeth: diamonds-are-a-girl's-best-friend, reimagined with serious firepower.
High-gloss, high-impact, unapologetic.
I was brought on to concept and design the motion pieces, the world where real players and their in-game Agents became one cinematic universe.
Problem
Campaigns about women in gaming usually die one of two deaths. They patronize, pink it up, soften it, celebrate so hard it condescends. Or they erase, strip the femininity out and borrow the standard tough-guy playbook. Both moves say the same quiet thing: femininity and firepower don't mix.
The whole point of this campaign was that they do.

Challenge
The frames had to make the argument alone, no copy to lean on. Luxury pushed into lethal territory: one inch too far and it's self-parody, one inch short, and you've lost the game. And every frame had to honor Valorant's world and the Agents' lore, so the fantasy held, player and Agent, one identity.
The real brief fit in a sentence: nobody's confused about who's running the show.

Approach
The object concepts came out of my early explorations: a skull crowned in bullets. Franklin's eyes shot through. Each one playing with the same idea, what's the glamour, what's the weapon? Another art director on the team took that language further with diamonds and lipstick wrapped around the casings.
From there, I focused on the environments. Tufted furniture in gun smoke. Columns in haze. Rooms that felt like the aftermath of a fight you didn't see luxury, but armed.
The type carried the attitude. JETT, KAYO, VIPER, stacked, mirrored, kinetic, treated like fashion logos at a concert. And everything stayed true to the Agents' looks and lore, so the line between the player on set and the character in the game stayed blurred.
